Google Nexus 5 Concept, Made by Sony

Google Nexus 5 Concept, Made by Sony

Google Nexus 5 is a concept to look out for, since the general impression was that the LG Nexus 4 was below everyone’s expectations. The previous Nexus handsets, those made by Samsun were very appreciated, but the LG one… well not so much. Now let’s give Sony a chance to make the Nexus 5, as seen by designer gpat, who sent us the concept.

Google Nexus 5 Concept, Made by Sony

The Google Nexus 5 features a Snapdragon 800 processor, an 18 megapixel camera and a 5 inch 1080p Super PLS screen, plus a 3000 mAh battery. The device runs Android 4.5 for some reason, making me believe that this is supposed to be Android Key Lime Pie. The back side of the phone looks like a more compact LG Nexus 4 back, with the same interesting pattern. Fingers crossed for a back that’s not made of glass, since that was a disaster on the Nexus 4.
The front side of the phone seems to show us a very compact design and strange aspect ratio, if you look at the dock area at the bottom. It makes me think that the diagonal size is unusually small here, something like 4 inches or even 3.7 inches. Could a Sony Nexus phone be done like this?
[Thanks Gpat]

Microsoft X-Mobile, an Xbox Mobile Device/Phone With Sliding Gaming Controls

Microsoft X-Mobile, an Xbox Mobile Device/Phone With Sliding Gaming Controls

Designer Michael Dionne imagined a portable Xbox concept or an Xbox phoneif you want to call it that way, with the result being the concept below. It was called the X-Mobile, a pretty fine name if you ask me and it adopts a sliding game control area, plus a very crisp display.

Microsoft X Mobile, an Xbox Mobile Device/Phone With Sliding Gaming Controls

For some reason, the design reminds me of a Motorola device, something like the Milestone, maybe because of the width. I like the way the buttons are integrated and I like the analog sticks especially. I can’t really tell if there are shoulder buttons, but there probably are. As far as specs go, Michael Dionne has another concept for an Xbox device, so I’m just going to imagine that the specs are pretty much the same: a 2.3 GHz dual core AMD CPU, 1 GB of DDR3 RAM, 16/32/64 GB of HDHC flash memory and a custom quad core AMD Vision GPU.
There’s also HDMI out, Bluetooth, front and back 720p cameras, GPS and dual rumble actuators. The specs you’re seeing here is for a tablet-ish device that Michael designed, but more about that in a future article. The next PSP Phone or first Xbox Phone will be wider and thinner than all attempts so far, I guess…

Nokia Lumia 955 is Based on Nvidia Tegra 4, Has 2 GB of RAM, 5.5 inch Display

Nokia Lumia 955 is Based on Nvidia Tegra 4, Has 2 GB of RAM, 5.5 inch Display

Deviantart user nik255 recently submitted to us the Nokia Lumia 955 concept, that’s supposed to be a “Windows PRT” device, supposedly the next Windows for ARM version being on boar. The idea is that instead of Windows Phone and Windows RT you get Windows PRT, a combo of them.

Nokia Lumia 955 is Based on Nvidia Tegra 4, Has 2 GB of RAM, 5.5 inch Display

The OS brings higher resolutions, digital ink feature, more tile sizes and an integrated desktop environment. The latter will allow the user to rely on the phone/tablet as a computer and run apps in the classic windows mode, with display, keyboard and mouse, plus customization options.
The Nokia Lumia 955 concept packs an Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 5.5 inch PureMotion HD++ display, with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and a 3.600 mAh rechargeable battery. There’s also microSDXC on board, USB 3.0, a Mini DisplayPort (Video), WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. At the back we’ve got a 16 megapixel PureView camera and the device comes in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions. The digital ink stylus feature will allow you to take notes, as shown in the picture above.

HTC M7 Renders, Pictures and Leaks

HTC M7 Renders, Pictures and Leaks: Which One is Real?!

I have been puzzled when following the news about the HTC M7 in the latest weeks. A bunch of very different renders and pictures of the device have surfaced and we’re here to analyze all of them and try to figure out which are real and which are not. The HTC M7 is the upcoming flagship that HTC prepared for Mobile World Congress 2013 and it will rock the market as much as the HTC One X did.
HTC M7 Renders, Pictures and Leaks: Which One is Real?!
So, the picture above is the first that appeared and it looked kind of fugly, like an iPhone 5 back and with those strange earpiece-style holes at the top and bottom, plus no branding at all. Rumors are saying that the M7 is a 4.7 inch Full HD handset with a 1.7 GHz quad core processor, 2 GB of RAM, LTE, NFC and other goodies. And then came the render below, this time borrowing a few design elements from the HTC 8X and for some reason placing the multitasking button at the center of the lower side and the Home button on the side.
HTC M7 Renders, Pictures and Leaks: Which One is Real?!
HTC Sense 5.0 is also shown on the screen and overall this leak was unimpressive. Finally a German site published the HTC M7 render you can see below, this one with a more edge to edge display feel to it, and a more elongated shape, plus it placed back the Home button where it belongs. It also looks a bit like the first leak from Unwired View, so the confusion reigned.

And finally Android Police came and cleared all the mess, by revealing two hands on live pictures of the HTC M7, that seem to be the real deal. They confirm the placement of the Home button on the side, they bring a cute looking HTC Sense 5.0, with a very nice and elegant clock widget and a very modern lockscreen. The render that was the closest was actually the second one from above. There’s a Beats logo here too and the back doesn’t quite look like the HTC 8X. The phone looks more like the Droid DNA, actually. Which version do you prefer?

Samsung Galaxy X Midrange Phone Sounds Like a Galaxy Nexus Successor

Samsung Galaxy X Midrange Phone Sounds Like a Galaxy Nexus Successor

Shahin Jazirian imagined a new Samsung concept phone that goes by the name of Samsung Galaxy X and has midrange specs. That’s why I see it as a Galaxy Nexus successor, especially because it has a similar 4.65 inch diagonal and HD resolution. We’re dealing here with a handset with Super AMOLED display, a microSD card slot and 1 GB of RAM.

Samsung Galaxy X Midrange Phone Sounds Like a Galaxy Nexus Successor

Samsung Galaxy X comes in 16 and 32 GB versions, it supports 21 Mbps HSDPA connectivity, as well as LTE and WiFi. Bluetooth 4.0 is also here, as well as NFC, microUSB 2.0 and there’s an 8 megapixel camera at the back, with autofocus, dual LED flash and Full HD 30 fps video capture. Upfront we’ve got a 1.9 megapixel and as far as software goes, Android 4.2 is the name of the game. The chipset powering up the device makes me think of the Galaxy Nexus again, since it’s a TI OMAP 4570, a dual core 1.7 GHz unit.
The GPU is a PowerVR SGX555 and we also get an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor and compass on board of the Galaxy X. As far as battery goes, the Samsung concept phone has a Li-Ion 2150 mAh unit, with 60 hours of functioning. As far as design goes, the device has straight edges, a cool X at the back and it’s pretty slim, plus it seems to have some sort of proprietary port at the bottom. Galaxy Nexus 2 much?

Brand New 2013 Concept Phone Crescent Zuess Features Quad Core CPU, 2.5 GB of RAM, Futuristic Design

Brand New 2013 Concept Phone Crescent Zuess Features Quad Core CPU, 2.5 GB of RAM, Futuristic Design

Straight from Jonathan De Jesus and Crescent Mobile Technologies comes a new concept phone called Crescent Zuess. We’re dealing here with a futuristic phone with an unusual design and packing 2.5 GB of RAM, as well as a 12 megapixel camera. The device has a 1080p AMOLED display and 4G LTE connectivity.

Brand New 2013 Concept Phone Crescent Zuess Features Quad Core CPU, 2.5 GB of RAM, Futuristic Design

It’s powered by solar charging (optional) when the phone is off and its case is made of carbon fiber and aluminum. There’s a volume strip on the Crescent Zuess that’s sensitive to touch, for control. You can also use finger scanning to lock or unlock the phone. The OS on board the Zuess is called Croissant OS and the voice control app is called Benson. You should also know that the designer of the smartphone said that the camera has manual focus and autofocus settings, plus auto settings that arrange the camera settings in a perfect way.
There’s apparently a secondary back screen, that shows the battery life and other hardware features of the phone in real time, maybe stuff like temperature and all that. Finally, Bose audio tech is included, plus a solar panel strip on the top of the phone and bottom in order to get the solar charging mentioned above. The device seems to be very thin and very sharp and rounded at the same time at the bottom. In case you’re wondering we’ve received several other Crescent Mobile concepts and you can see them here.

Nokia Lumia 1080 Concept

Nokia Lumia 1080 Concept by Adrian Jankowiak Has a Full HD Screen

Adrian Jankowiak is a new name on our site, but his design, the Nokia Lumia 1080 is really impressive. The designer thinks that this is what the next generation Lumias could look like in the future. As you can see the device is much slimmer than current Lumias and also it has a screen that feels like anedge to edge display.

Nokia Lumia 1080 Concept by Adrian Jankowiak Has a Full HD Screen

Nokia Lumia 1080 draws its name from the 4.4 inch 1080p screen upfront with a crazy 500 ppi. Diamond Fusion drawn glass from the display makes it tougher than any other screen on any other phone out there. The handset also comes with wireless charging and new Letterbox doors, that protect the charging port. At the back of this Full HD Lumia there’s a 12 megapixel PureView camera with “unbelievable low light performance”, which I tend to believe it’s true.
The variety of colors from previous Lumias is here and I have to say that the Windows buttons are more discrete than ever. My only worry is that with such almost edge to edge screen the user’s fingers may touch the display on its sides by mistake, but there are sensors for that. I would also speculate that this is a quad core phone with 2 GB of RAM, if the designer allows me. He promised further pictures of the Nokia Lumia 1080, so expect more soon! Good work Adrian!

HTC M7 Picture Leaked

HTC M7 Picture Leaked, New Render Turns Into Something More Plausible

The HTC M7 is supposed to be the next big flagship phone for HTC and it recently leaked on the web in the picture you can see below, published by Unwired View. Now, the folks of Yugatech did a render, based on that image (second picture below). They claim that the photo leaked on the web is quite unrealistic, since a screen image is hard to fit on top of it.

HTC M7 Picture Leaked, New Render Turns Into Something More Plausible

The aspect ratios don’t make sense, apparently. The good thing is that they managed to apply on top of a leaked screenshot of HTC Sense 5.0. HTC M7 is expected to bring a 4.7 inch Full HD display, a quad core processor, 2 GB of RAM and Android 4.2 with HTC Sense 5.0. We also expect a 13 megapixel camera and an announcement at Mobile World Congress 2013. The price tag is rumored to be around $600.
There’s also a speculation that this model won’t be called HTC M7 in the end, but rather HTC Two X, following up on the One X. For me, this phone design is a little too similar to the one of the iPhone 5 back, if you ask me. It would be a nice device, but maybe a bit too long and narrow… What do you say about the HTC M7 render here?

Nokia Lumia 999 Now in a Full Gallery of Pictures!

Nokia Lumia 999 Now in a Full Gallery of Pictures!

Remember the Nokia Lumia 999 we already wrote about a bit over a week ago? Well, we’re back with more pictures of this very interesting black and white Lumia concept, created by Jonas Daehnert. The theme reminds me of the LG Prada Phone 3.0 handset, also using a black & white interface, but that time on Android.

Nokia Lumia 999 Now in a Full Gallery of Pictures!

Jonas says that this Nokia Lumia concept features a 4.3 inch display, an aluminum case and that the hardware buttons are pressure sensitive and not capacitive. This is supposed to be a return to the roots of the Lumia series, with a more symmetrical look. I like how the phone is slightly curved in a very discrete way and also the integration of the camera, that looks like a sci-fi compact camera or maybe like the Huawei W1 (look it up). I also think that the circular speakers at the bottom are interesting, flanking the microUSB port.
My favourite part of the Nokia Lumia 999 would have to be the profile, with those cool buttons, including a camera button. All of them seem pretty comfy and easy to press and interact with. As far as specs go, I can speculate we have a Pureview camera here, 1 GB of RAM, at least 16 GB of storage, a 2000+ mAh battery and a dual core CPU at least. Fancy such an elegant device?

Sony Xperia Pro X Concept Has a Secondary Tactus Display

Sony Xperia Pro X Concept Has a Secondary Tactus Display

Sanjaya Kanishka saw the Sony Xperia Z getting introduced at CES 2013 and thought it wasn’t enough. Thus, the designer envisioned a superior device, dubbed Xperia Pro X, that features a secondary Tactus display, used as a keyboard or gaming control area. Tactus is a screen manufacturer, that’s looking for a solution when it comes to touch input that feels like the physical one.

Sony Xperia Pro X Concept Has a Secondary Tactus Display

Sony Xperia Pro X is inspired by the Tactus technology and as far as design goes, it looks quite a bit like the Xperia Z, keeping the rectangular shape. Its features include a 5 inch LED backlit IPS+ TFT screen with 1080p resolution and 443 ppi. Mobile Bravia Engine 2 is also here, as well as Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and that secondary display for input/gaming. Inside the device there’s a 2.3 GHz quad core processor, a Snapdragon 800 chipset with Adreno 330 GPU.
At the back we’ve got a 13 megapixel Exmor RS camera, with 1080p HDR video recording, dual LED flash and accompanied by a front 2 megapixel camera. Other specs include 16 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and 2 GB of RAM. DLNA, NFC, WiFi hotspot and Bluetooth 4.0 are all here, together with USB 3.0 support. Xperia Pro X runs Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and packs a 3200 mAh Li-Ion battery. It’s available in white, black, pink and gold and it has a sliding form factor, for the second screen.
The buttons on the Tactus keyboard are supposed to “pop out”, giving a real sensation of typing and gaming. If you’re wondering about that, there’s a Tactus demo below:

Samsung Galaxy S4 Speculations and Predictions, Plus a Few Images

Samsung Galaxy S4 Speculations and Predictions, Plus a Few Images

The folks of Yugatech have an interesting article that gathers some of the speculations and predictions regarding the upcoming Samsung flagship Galaxy S4. CES 2013 didn’t give us much about that device, unless you count Samsung’s flexible display, but that’s more Galaxy S5 material, if you ask me.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Speculations and Predictions, Plus a Few Images

Speaking of CES, there have been a lot of 5 inch Full HD devices out there this year and this will probably be translated to the Samsung Galaxy S4 as well. The new handset may feature a 5 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920. As far as design goes, Samsung has been criticized for using glossy plastic and very rounded shapes, but they also got praise for the removable battery and inclusion of microSD card slot. We keep the fingers crossed for a metallic case, or maybe something that mimics metal, like on the Samsung Ativ S.
The Galaxy S4 may have 2 GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera sensor, possibly made by Sony and crazy rumors have also talked about a stylus, although that seems unlikely. A few benchmark leaks have pointed to the codenameSamsung GT-i9500 as the official name of the newcomer. Finally, this model is supposed to go live in April or May and it could come with an Exynos 5 octa CPU and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, plus a 2,100 mAh+ battery. What would you like on the 2013 Galaxy S?

Microsoft Surface Phone Concept has a 5 Inch Display, Even Has a Keyboard (Video)

Microsoft Surface Phone Concept has a 5 Inch Display, Even Has a Keyboard (Video)

Created by Techradar, this Microsoft Surface Phone concept features some high end specs and it’s basically a smaller Surface Tablet, since it even has that cool keyboard. The device packs a 5 inch 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED+ screen and runs a hybrid between Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8.

Microsoft Surface Phone Concept has a 5 Inch Display, Even Has a Keyboard (Video)

This handset has a full USB 3.0 port, a 12 megapixel camera with “ultra bright” flash and a kickass kickstand, shown in the video below. The mini touch cover here is the keyboard we were mentioned before and it certainly looks cool, although we’re not exactly sure how functional it is on a phone. If I’m allowed to speculate on other features of the device, well, it may have 2 GB of RAM, a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, LTE, NFC and a magnesium alloy case, since we’re keeping the resemblance with the Surface tablet.
I’ve heard a rumor at some point that Windows Phone 9 will actually be a combo between Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8, so maybe this is supposed to be a WP9 flagship device. I would also add a special Skype camera on board, activated by the double press of the camera key on the device, to instantly start video chatting. How cool would that be?

Samsung Flexible Display Technology Shown at CES 2013 (Video)

Samsung Flexible Display Technology Shown at CES 2013 (Video)

I was complaining just the other day that we didn’t get to see cutting edge technology at CES 2013 and Samsung is here to prove me wrong. They did present a video showing flexible displays on a tablet and phone and you can watch that below. This is part of the Samsung CES 2013 keynote and speculations say that the Galaxy S IV or S V could have a Youm technology flexible display.

Samsung Flexible Display Technology Shown at CES 2013 (Video)

First we see a Galaxy S-style device, that can open up in two pieces and be turned into sort of a tablet. It’s sort of like a small booklet that you open up in order to use, as shown in the video. The interface is still TouchWizz and the device is incredibly thin. The concept of the video is rather puerile, since the girl is supposed to go with the guy who has the cooler toy. The douche with the tablet with lights around it is supposed to have an iPad, or what?
Anyway, at the end of the clip the futuristic flexible display tablet is shown as a main stick device with a sliding out flexible E-paper style screen, that displays the interface. It may be a 7 inch sheet that’s doing that, making this a very interesting tablet. We’re in for a long wait till this comes to mainstream production…
